House Rules

House Rules

Real sellers. Real experiences. Respectful conversation.

This board works because people can speak openly and honestly about selling, business, AI and mental health. You don’t have to agree with everyone here — in fact, we hope you won’t — but everyone should feel able to join the conversation.

Be kind, even when you disagree

Challenge the idea, not the person. Debate, different opinions and constructive criticism are welcome. Personal attacks, abuse, harassment, bullying, discrimination, threats or encouraging others to pile on are not.

Share experience, not diagnosis

You’re welcome to talk openly about your own mental health and what has or hasn’t helped you.

Please don’t diagnose other members or tell someone to start, stop or change medication, treatment or professional care. Those decisions belong between that person and an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

What happens here should feel safe

Don’t publish another person’s private or identifying information without their permission.

Please don’t use the board to name and shame buyers, sellers, eBay employees, businesses or other individuals. If you’re discussing a dispute, describe what happened without turning it into a public campaign against someone.

Talk about eBay — including the difficult bits

Positive experiences, frustrations, mistakes, policy changes and constructive criticism of eBay are all fair subjects.

But this isn’t a place for organising harassment, manipulating feedback, avoiding fees, selling counterfeits, circumventing platform rules or encouraging anything illegal.

Discuss the rules. Don’t use the board to help break them.

AI is here to be questioned

This is a place to discuss what AI can genuinely do for sellers — and where it gets things wrong.

Share experiments, challenge claims and talk about failures as well as successes. If something was generated by AI and that matters to the discussion, be open about it.

AI should help people, not remove the human from the conversation.

No spam, disguised advertising or hard selling

Mentioning your eBay shop, product, service, YouTube channel or project when it’s genuinely relevant to a conversation is absolutely fine.

Repeated promotion, affiliate spam, unsolicited pitches, misleading links and joining purely to advertise are not.

Protect yourself too

Remember that this is an online community. Think carefully before sharing personal, financial, medical or business information that you may later wish you’d kept private.

You never have to disclose your diagnosis, medication, sales figures, business name or anything else to take part.

If you’re worried about someone

Take comments about someone’s safety seriously and report the post to a moderator so it can be reviewed.

This community can listen and support, but it isn’t a crisis service.

In the UK, Samaritans can be reached free on 116 123, day or night. You can also text SHOUT to 85258. If there is an immediate danger or emergency, call 999.

Help us look after the room

If something doesn’t feel right, report it rather than starting a fight underneath it.

Moderators may edit, lock or remove content, restrict accounts, or remove members when necessary to protect the community. Context matters, and we’ll try to be fair.

Above all: be human.

There is a real person behind every username, every eBay account and every business.

Pull up a chair. Ask questions. Share what you’ve learned. Disagree when you disagree.

Just leave the room a little better than you found it.
